If you are interested, we offer a free week of introductory classes to see what we're all about. When you're ready to sign up, you'll have a meeting with our head instructor to go over paperwork and registration. This includes a few different things:
Since we train in three application programs, we have a lot of different gear that is used. All gear is ordered through the WHRDA, and use of generic gear or gear from other martial arts is disallowed. We have flexible payment options for equipment orders, and if there are any questions, our club treasurer is able to assist you.
As you gain material and test for the next rank, you'll first perform a tip-test. These tests are held in Eau Claire and happen the second Thursday of each month. In a tip-test, you perform half of your material and receive critique. This helps you understand which aspects of your training you need to focus on. When you are ready for a full test, you are required to test at the Madison-East school. Madison runs testing every third Saturday of the month.
Full tests range from $50 to $80 in price as you move up in rank. If you are regularly training, you can often advance a belt every three months. However, some belts can prove to be more difficult than others, depending on the student. At this rate, many students can receive a black belt after three to four years of training.
If you have a son or daughter that is interested in martial arts, we are more than happy to welcome them. Since we are a University club, the student base is mostly college students or slightly older. Though we do teach kids, the dynamic is slightly different being around a lot of adults. Tae Soo Do is excellent in building confidence, values, respect, and responsibility in kids.
For any questions regarding safety, training, or any topic, please email us or come meet us! We would love to help you decide whether your son or daughter is right for our club. Many parents also train with their kids, making it a great bonding experience as you both advance in rank!
