THE END IS NEAR! OK, for those of you who are already getting overwhelmed about everything you still have to do between now and the end of the school year, pause. Breathe deeply. Exhale. Don’t panic. You still have some time.
But now IS the time to start thinking about the end of the year. Since September, you have accumulated a lot of stuff. With finals looming, I’m hesitant to dump any more math on you, but bear with me. That car you are likely using to pack up your stuff measures its cargo space in tens of cubic yards. If you’re talking about a minivan, you are looking at about 60-70 cubic feet of cargo space. With a sport wagon or hatchback, you are looking at 25-35 cubic feet of cargo space. And if you are flying home, you don’t even want to think about how much less room you have in your carry-on or checked baggage. Now, take a look at your stuff. Chances are, the math doesn’t add up.
Plan now for what you want to give away at the Give and Take Move Out Event, an idea RHA developed and implemented by Housing and Residence Life, to help you recycle and repurpose items you don't need or that are broken.
Tents will be placed near your hall. You can bring carpeting, clothing, small appliances, electronics, futons, furniture and cardboard to the tents. If you see an item you need, you may take it. No items maybe reserved in the tent for a friend. You may not secure the item to the tent either. We also ask that you only take one futon per person.
A non-perishable food and clothing drive, conducted by RHA, also will be held. The food will be collected in the hall lobbies and the clothing in the tents.

Towers Halls Wins
Sustainability Fashion Show
Tara Young, a UW-Eau Claire freshman representing Towers Hall, was the winner of the Just Bag It sustainability fashion show held in honor of Earth Day on April 19. The event is sponsored by Housing and Residence Life to draw students attention to the importance of recycling and repurposing items instead of throwing them away. See the photos above for a look at the costumes.
Towers Hall will have two smart strips installed in each residents room in the hall. These strips reduce energy use by stopping phantom loads -- energy pulled from electronic devices after they are turned off.
Second place was awarded to Oakridge Hall, Governor’s Hall received third place and Bridgman Hall was honorable mention.
The event was judged by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Director of Housing, Chuck Major, UW-Eau Claire Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Beth Hellwig, and UW-Eau Claire Sustainability Fellow, Jim Boulter.
