Who can apply to be an RA?Top

Anyone who…

1. Has at least one semester of on campus living

2. Is a second semester freshman who is applying for employment in the first semester of their sophomore year

3. Is an off campus student with previous on campus living.

4. Has an above average academic record.

    a. During the semester of application, s/he must receive a 2.50 semester GPA. His/her GPA the previous semester and the cumulative GPA must be at least a 2.50. No probationary period is permitted for new RAs.
    b. S/he must maintain a 2.50 GPA each semester as an RA.


How do you apply to be an RA?Top

1. Fill out the RA application (instructions will be posted on main Housing webpage during open application times).

2. Return electronic application to RASelection@uwec.edu.

3. Completed application includes:

    A. Cover Letter (be sure to include the following)

  • Why you want to be a R.A.
  • Any leadership experiences that is relevant to the R.A. position
  • How equity, diversity, and inclusion are important to you and in the R.A position

    B. Resume

    C. Resident Assistant General Information page (application)

    D. Three references

4. The references should be emailed to RASelection@uwec.edu.

5. The Selection Committee will contact you with information on how to sign up for the group interviews and the Hall Director will contact you on how to sign up for individual interviews.

6. You can apply to one hall during the selection process and click on a checkbox within the application if you would like to be considered for other halls.

1. After the application materials are returned RASelection@uwec.edu you will be notified on how to sign up for the group interview.

2. Every applicant will have at least one iterview:

    A group interview
    a. The group interview will consist of all applicants applying to be a Resident Assistant.
    b. The group interview is designed to see how an individual acts and performs in a group setting, much like you would do on an RA staff.
    c. There will be a number of activities or scenarios that an applicant will go through during the group interview.
    An individual interview
    a. Depending on your application and group interview you may be asked to sign up for an individual interview.
    b. The selection committee will take turns asking the applicant questions in order to determine quality of each applicant.

Living Learning CommunitiesTop

Housing and Residence Life offers specific living learning communities in some of the residence halls. RAs on these floors/halls may have specific responsibilites related to the LLC. Please contact the specific hall director to inquire of LLC RA openings.

Global Learning Community – Katharine Thomas Hall

The Global Learning Community provides an opportunity for domestic and international students to live together and engage in learning experiences related to living in an increasingly global society. Opportunities exist in the GLC for students to prepare for study abroad and for students returning from study abroad to share their experiences. The GLC is open to all students who desire to learn more about global issues.

Leadership Learning Community – Governors Hall

The Leadeship Learning Community provides an opportunity for approximately 70 first year students to explore the concept of leadership both in theory and practice. Students will attend leadership seminars (non- credit and for credit), listen to speakers, take field trips, and participate in specialized programs designed only for the learning community participants. Living in the Leadership Learning Community is a great way for residents to start their college experience and meet others interested in making a positive impact on the UW-Eau Claire community!

Social Justice Learning Community – Sutherland Hall

The Social Justice Learning Community will provide multiple opportunities for students interested in issues related to diversity and multiculturalism. Students in the community will be involved in a variety of in-class and out-of-class experiences designed to develop a personal sense of social justice and provide ideas for how individuals can work for positive social change. Some of these opportunities will include specialized classes, speakers, field trips, and service opportunities that make a difference in the lives of others. This community will be open to second year and older students in 2010-2011 and then open to all as space is available in following years.

Wellness Learning Community – Murray Hall

The Wellness Learning Community will provide students an opportunity to become engaged in all aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This community will be substance free and will provide in-class and out-of-class experiences designed to learn about a wide range of wellness topics including but not limited to stress management, healthy eating habits, a variety of exercise options, and the spirit-mind-body connection. The Wellness Learning Community includes a variety of specialized educational programs sponsored by the Kinesiology Department, the Student Wellness Advocacy Team, and Student Health Services. This community is offered for all students as space is available.


Honors Learning Community – Bridgman Hall

Students accepted into the University Honors Program for Fall 2011 may join the exciting new Honors Learning Community on a first-come, first-served basis. Led by dynamic Honors RAs and Honors student mentors, this community will enable 60 first-year honor students (30 men and 30 women) to live, study, play and grow together with like-minded peers! The community will be a center for the vibrant intellectual, cultural and social life of the university honors program. Classes, films, discussions and even parties will be hosted by the Honors Learning Community. Members will enroll in a minimum of 3 Honors course credits per semester and participate in the University Honors Program.
