Ideas for How to effectively communicate with others
|
- Present an idea at your Hall Council meeting
- Outline what you are going to say prior to saying it
- Contact your roommate before move in to discuss living together
- Get to know your roommate and speak to them in a way they would appreciate
- Participate in the roommate agreement process and discuss how to live by your agreement
- Respond to questions or comments in a thoughtful and respectful manner
- Learn what resources are available to you and use the appropriate resource
- Continuously work to develop positive relationships through positive communication
- Use appropriate modes of communication – don’t always just send an email or text
- Formulate email messages to limit the recipients chances of misinterpreting information
- Find ways to disagree with others in a way that places focus on the ideas, not the person
- Participate in Hall Council discussion
- Seek leadership experiences that will provide opportunity to communicate with a wide variety of people
- Host a program or event in your hall or elsewhere on campus
- Create a proposal for an improvement you would like to see implemented
- Think through all sides of question or problem
- Discuss and communicate your individual needs and your expectations of others
