Hall Council Training
_______________________________

Get Involved!

The long-term success of hall council is dependant upon taking time to train executive board members to lead a positive, productive and inclusive group. Hall council training is offered by Housing and Residence Life at the beginning of the fall semester. This training gives executive board members the tools to build a strong and involved hall council that will offer many opportunities for all students to get involved in their community.

Training Goals

  • Provide thorough descriptions of the position including responsibilities, expectations and accountability of each position
  • Provide resources for members including information regarding workshops and retreats
  • Provide resources for members to tap into when questions arise
  • Set the vision and mission for the ideal hall council
  • Set goals and action plans for following year
  • Build team rapport between executive board members

Transitioning

The mark of a successful hall council is its ability to sustain a high level of performance over multiple years. To ensure your hall council continues on a positive track through the years, it is important for current executive board members to spend time documenting and explaining what was done over the course of a year to the incoming executive board members.

Thoughts to keep in mind when transitioning:

  • Provide thorough documentations of each activity/event so that the new member can know what occurred
  • Schedule meetings for individual, hands-on training if members are elected prior to the end of the term
  • Be a resource for questions after your term is complete, if possible
  • Leave a transition binder including all of the essentials
