Fundraising Ideas

Fundraising can be important to raise money for items the Housing Department can't buy, such as food. Click here for some ideas!

However, if there are major purchases that your hall would like to make, consider talking to your hall director about making that purchase. Housing and Residence Life may in some cases help to purchase large items.

RHA and NRHH are always sources for funds as well. Click in the links to contact the president of either group to schedule a time to present your request to the organization. Organization members will vote on whether or not to fund your request.

RHA and NRHH both have well established fund raising programs. Part of their missions is to recognize and support events and programs happening in the residence halls.

Questions to Consider when Developing a Fund-Raising Strategy

• Who are your fundraising targets?
• How much can they give? What are their motivations for giving or buying?
• What is the cost in membership time?
• Is the project labor intensive?
• Is the project repeatable?
• Is it a short, long, or mid-range project?
• Will it produce long or short term yield?

Basic Tips to Consider

• Do not always go to the same business/people
• Go to businesses early so they will have enough resources to donate to your organization
• Create fundraising goals/purpose/target
• Ensure membership support
• Establish a fundraising committee, if necessary
• Prepare a budget
• Decide on an appropriate fundraising technique
• Research your potential funding sources
• Set timeline/calendar

• Believe in your project, cause, or organization
• Get something in return
• Are treated as people instead of just a source of money and support
