The Eugene R. McPhee Physical Education Center and the Ade Olson Addition, located on upper campus, houses classrooms and offices for faculty in the department of kinesiology, as well as athletics. A state-of-the-art indoor climbing wall — the biggest of its kind in the Midwest — was added to the building in the fall of 2000. Tennis courts, racquetball courts, an indoor track and a swimming pool are among the building's many other features. The building was constructed in 1969, with the Ade Olson Addition completed in 1987. The McPhee Center was named for an alumnus, former faculty member and executive director of the Wisconsin State University System (1945-72). The addition was named for an alumnus, coach and chair of the department of physical education (1947-75).
