The name comes from the Latin definition of the word "scientia," meaning knowledge, and describes a database containing information on faculty and staff from all disciplines — from the sciences to the social sciences to the humanities.

This site is intended for several distinct groups:

• Faculty and staff who are seeking collaborators for research or scholarly activities or access to numerous databases on grant information, patents and other government documents maintained on the Community of Science search engine.
• Business and industry members who are seeking the intellectual resources of our faculty and staff for consulting or research purposes.
• Media members who are seeking specialized experts to add depth or commentary to their stories.

How to use the COS database

Faculty and staff affiliated with UW-Eau Claire may search this database or update their Community of Science record by accessing it directly from their computer.

Because the COS database is proprietary, business and industry members and media do not have direct access.
