The Navigation Pane is one way that you can move between the different features of Outlook. The default pane may not meet all of your needs so you can customize it to better suit your working style.
To display as much of the screen as possible, you can adjust the amount of screen space the Navigation Pane uses. By resizing, you can display fewer buttons or reduce the pane to display only small icons.
Place your mouse pointer between the Navigation Pane and the Folder List
When the pointer turns to a double arrow, click and hold
Drag the mouse to desired position
Release the mouse button
The Navigation Pane is now resized.
You can rearrange the order of the buttons in the Navigation Pane so that the ones you use most frequently are at the top of the pane. Doing this will also allow you to minimize the pane such that only those frequently used buttons display, while the others are reduced to smaller icons.
In the Navigation Pane, right click » select Navigation Pane Options...
OR
In the Navigation Pane, from the Configure buttons menu
, select Navigation Pane Options...
The Navigation Pane Options dialog box appears.

Adding or removing buttons is another option for customizing the Navigation Pane. Removing a button does not remove your access to the feature/folder. All folders are accessible from the Folder List or the Go menu.

HINTS:
Buttons that have a box around the icon are currently displayed. Selecting them will remove them from the Navigation Pane.
