Adding the Script Location to the Form Tag

Note: The HTML pages are out-of-date and will not be updated.

In order to use the email message script on the UWEC Web server, two processes must be completed: adding the location of the email message script to the <FORM> tag and inserting the five required hidden form fields into the form. This document will cover adding the email message script location to the <FORM> tag. When you have added the script location to the <FORM> tag, continue with Using the Required Hidden Form Fields.

The <FORM> and </FORM> tags mark the beginning and ending of the form in your web document. They require the following two attributes: Method and Action.

Method defines the process that the server will use to act on the form. The Post action is used to pass the form contents to a server script as path arguments and is the method most commonly used. Action indicates the name and address (URL) of the script to be executed after clicking the SUBMIT button.

When using the UWEC email message script, the Method attribute should be Post, and the Action attribute of the form tag must identify the location of the email message script. Refer to the code example below.

Example Code:

 <FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="/scripts/formmail/formmail.pl">...</FORM>

The HTML codes for form fields are located between the form on and off tags.

NOTE: When you have added the script location to the <FORM> tag, continue with Using the Required Hidden Form Fields.
