Annotating a PDF File: Adding an Attachment

Sometimes you will find it necessary to add a lengthy message to the document you are editing, but you may find it difficult to do with the Comment & Markup tools; therefore, Adobe Acrobat allows you to add an attachment to the document. This LTS Help document explains how to attach a document file or sound file to your PDF.

When you find it necessary to add a lengthy note to a document, it can be easily accomplished by attaching a document file to to the PDF.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Comment & Markup » Attach a File as a Comment
    The cursor becomes a thumbtack.

  2. Click anywhere on the PDF file that you would like to attach the file
    The Add Attachment dialog box appears.

  3. Using the Look in pull-down list and file window, locate and select the file you would like to attach

  4. Click SELECT
    The File Attachment Properties dialog box appears.

  5. On the Appearance tab, in the Icon list, select the type of icon you would like your attachment to appear as

  6. To change the color of the attachment icon
    1. Click COLORColor button
    2. From the Color box, select a color

  7. Click OK
    The desired document is attached.

When you find it difficult to explain your comments thoroughly in writing, you can record your comments and attach the sound file to the PDF document.

NOTE: In order to record you must have a microphone.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Comment & Markup » Record Audio Comment
    The cursor becomes a speaker icon.

  2. Click anywhere on the PDF file you would like to attach a sound file
    The Sound Recorder dialog box appears.

  3. To record your own sound
    1. Click RECORDRecord button
    2. Speak into your microphone
    3. Click STOPStop button
    4. Click OK

  4. To attach an existing sound file
    1. Click BROWSE...
      The Select Sound File dialog box appears.
    2. Using the Look in pull-down list and file window, locate and select the file you would like to attach
    3. Click SELECT

  5. Once you are satisfied with the sound file, click OK
    The Sound Attachment Properties dialog box appears.

  6. On the Appearance tab, in the Icon list, select the type of icon you would like your sound attachment to appear as

  7. To change the color of the attachment icon
    1. Click COLORColor button
    2. From the Color box, select a color

  8. Click OK
    The sound file is attached.
