VPN Client software restricts off-campus access to UW-Eau Claire network resources to UW-Eau Claire users while providing a secure, encrypted network connection.
The location of the Network Connection utility will vary slightly depending on your computer set up.
From the Start menu, select Control Panel
Click NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS
Click NETWORK CONNECTION
Select Create a new connection
The New Connection Wizard appears.
Click NEXT
Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click NEXT
Select Virtual Private Network connection and click NEXT
In the Company Name text box, type UWEC VPN and click NEXT
In the Host name or IP address text box, type vpn.uwec.edu and click NEXT
Select My use only and click NEXT
Select Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop and click FINISH
The Connect UWEC VPN dialog box appears.
To exit, click CANCEL
To connect, continue with step 2 of Connecting with VPN
You must be connected to the Internet before using VPN to connect to the UW-Eau Claire network.
From the Desktop, double click your VPN connection shortcut
The Connect UWEC VPN dialog box appears.
In the User name text box, type your username
In the Password text box, type your network password
Informational screens appear telling of the connection and verification of your password.
Click CONNECT
NOTE: If the connection fails, repeat steps 1-4 except: in the User name text box, type UWEC\username
Be sure to disconnect when finished using resources from UWEC.
From the desktop, double click UWEC VPN 
OR
In the System Tray, click UWEC VPN ![]()
The UWEC VPN Status dialog box appears.
Click DISCONNECT
