Using File Search

File Search allows you to search any of your network connections for files based on the criteria you set. By using File Search, you can locate old or obsolete files, large files, and temporary files. Once located, you can make the decision to move the file(s) to another storage medium, delete the files, or leave them in their current location.

  1. From the Tools menu, select TreeSize File Search
    The TreeSize Professional File Search dialog box appears.

  2. Select the Scan Options tab

  3. In the Drives and Paths to include scroll box, select the desired drivesDrives and Paths to include scroll box

  4. In the Enabled Search Types section, select the type search(es) you would like to perform
    The item(s) are selected if a checkmark appears.
    NOTE: If a search type is not selected, the tab will not be displayed.

  5. To search for large files:
    1. Select the Biggest Files tab
    2. In the Search for files bigger than text box, use the nudge buttons or type the desired file size

    3. From the pull-down list, select the size increment Kb OR Mb

  6. To search for old files:
    1. Select the Oldest Files tab
    2. From the Search for files pull-down list, select not accessed OR not changed Oldest Files tab
    3. From the since pull-down list, select the desired date
    4. To return only complete folders, select Return complete folders only
      Complete folders will exclude empty or untitled folders.

  7. To search for temporary files:
    1. Select the Temporary Files tab
    2. From the Search for files containing list, click CONFIGUREConfigure button
      The dialog box refreshes.
    3. Select the desired file criteria
      NOTES:
      You are not limited to the default list. By clicking EDIT or ADD you can modify or add to the list.Temporary Files tab
      By selecting a specific criteria and clicking DELETE, you can remove criteria from the list.
      The Internet Files search displays all temporary files based on the extension selected here.

  8. To begin the scan, click START SEARCHING

  9. OPTIONAL: To save a list of the results, click SAVE LIST

  10. To move selected files:
    1. Select the desired files
    2. Click MOVED CHECKED
      The Choose Destination dialog box appears.

    3. Select the desired destination for the files
    4. Click OK

  11. Close the File Search window
