Strategies and Tips for Use

TreeSize Professional helps you to manage the files and file space on the drives you are connected to. Display options allow you to customize a scan and its results. File Search allows you locate files based on criteria you choose.

TreeSize Professional can provide information on drive usage and drive contents. This information can be used to manage file space on a drive. Using the buttons on the Data toolbar, you can customize the display of the scan and the format of the results. For example, you can choose to display file scan results alphabetically by file name or numerically by file size.

Buttons for selecting the display, sorting the results, and changing the format of the results are all found on the Data toolbar. For more information about the buttons on the Data toolbar, refer to TreeSize Professional 4.0: The Environment.

File Search allows you to search any of your network connections for files based on the criteria you set. Using it, you can identify old, large, and temporary files. This will help you make decisions for managing your file space. Moving or deleting files can be implemented from the File Search window. For more information, refer to Using File Search.

Based on the information you obtain from a scan or a File Search, you may identify files that you want to keep, but do not need to maintain on your H: drive or a shared drive. In those cases, another storage medium is appropriate. Depending on the number and size of files, you can use one of the following:

The Help files provide concise, printable descriptions and procedures for all TreeSize Professional topics. There are two different ways to access the Help files.

Accessing Help: Menu Option

  1. From the Help menu, select the desired option
    Your options are as follows:

Contents Offers an Index and a Contents tab
NOTES:
The Index is a list of Help topics. By typing the first few letters of a topic, you are taken to that area of the list.
The Contents tab provides a brief view of the major help topics.
F.A.Q. Provides a list of frequently asked questions and their answers
Tips and Annotations Provides more information about the features, as well as tips and shortcuts
What is New? Describes what is new in this version
Check for Update... Provides access to TreeSize updates
About... Provides the details of the TreeSize Professional software and a means of contacting them for further support

 

Accessing Help: File Search Option

If you are working within a File Search you do not need to exit it in order to access the Help files.

  1. Click HELP
    The TreeSize Professional 4.0 Help dialog box appears.
