Qualtrics Survey System

Using Panel Triggers

After surveying a group of respondents, you may want to send an additional survey to those respondents who answered a question in a certain way. With Panel Triggers, Qualtrics can create a panel for you, based on criteria that you define.

return to topCreating a Panel Trigger: Question Option

You can create a Panel based on responses to questions in your survey. For example, you conduct an anonymous survey on healthy eating habits. At the end of the survey, you ask if the respondent would like to participate in a study on exercise. Those who answer yes are asked for their name and email address.

These instructions assume that you have the survey created and that it contains questions that will obtain the responses necessary to create a Panel.

NOTE: At a minimum, you must have email addresses to populate a panel.

  1. Create a panel that will hold the email addresses that Qualtrics gathers
NOTE: You do not need to enter any names or email addresses to this Panel, the Panel Trigger will do that.

  2. From the My Surveys tab, for the desired survey, click EDITEdit button
The survey appears in Edit mode.

  3. From the Advanced Options pull-down menu, select Panel Triggers...
    The Triggers dialog box appears.

return to topCreating a Panel Trigger: Embedded Data Option

By using embedded data, you can create a Panel using information from another Panel’s embedded data. For example, you send a survey on exercise to a large group of people. From the respondents, you would like to contact the women who answered your survey to follow up with them on women’s health issues. The Panel Trigger can pull the existing Panel member for those women and create a separate Panel for you.

These instructions assume that you have the survey created and that you are using a Panel to distribute it that contains the embedded data necessary  to create a new Panel.

NOTE: At a minimum, you must have email addresses to populate a panel.

  1. Create a panel that will hold the email addresses that Qualtrics gathers
NOTE: You do not need to enter any names or email addresses to this Panel, the Panel Trigger will do that.
