Using Display Logic

Using the Display Logic feature in Qualtrics, you can have a question appear to your respondents only if they answer a previous question in a certain way. For example, if you were to ask if your respondents had attended orientation at UW-Eau Claire, and they answered yes, then you could use Display Logic to bring up a question asking about their experience. If they answered no, they wouldn't see the question at all. Qualtrics inserts a Page Break after the question that you have applied the Display Logic to.

Display Logic involves two questions:

• The initiating question (e.g., Did you attend orientation at UWEC?), will affect how the Display Logic works
• The dependent question (e.g., Please rate your experience) will appear only if the respondent's answer meets the Display Logic criteria.

NOTES:
The initiating question must come before the dependent question.
Qualtrics inserts a Page Break after the initiating question. However, a Page Break graphic does not appear in Edit Mode.

RECOMMENDATION: You will want to require a response (force response) to initiating questions used for Display Logic.

To add Display Logic:

1. From the My Surveys tab, for the desired survey, click EDIT
   The survey appears in Edit mode.

2. Select the desired dependent question
   NOTE: When the question is selected, it will turn light blue and all the question options will be displayed.
   EXAMPLE: Select Please rate your experience.

3. From the Advanced Question Options menu, select Add Display Logic...
   The Display Logic dialog box appears.
   

4. From the If pull-down menu, select the desired option
   EXAMPLE: Select Question

5. From the second pull-down menu, select the desired option
   EXAMPLE: Select Have you attended orientation at UW-Eau Claire?

6. From the third pull-down menu, select the desired option
   EXAMPLE: Select Yes

7. From the Is pull-down menu, select the desired option
   EXAMPLE: Select Selected

8. OPTIONAL: To add more conditions, click the plus sign [+] button

9. Click SAVE
   The Display Logic pane appears above the dependent question.
   

To remove Display Logic:

1. Select the question with the Display Logic you want to remove
   NOTE: When the question is selected, it will turn light blue and all the question options will be displayed.
   

2. In the upper right corner of the Display Logic pane, click REMOVE DISPLAY LOGIC
   NOTES:
   The Display Logic pane will disappear.
   The Display Logic coding has been deleted.
