Emailing a large group of people can be tedious and time consuming. Outlook Webmail allows you to create distribution lists to make your email experience more efficient. Distribution lists can contain as many email addresses as you like and are simpler than using the Cc or Bcc fields. This document will explain how to create and use distribution lists in Outlook Webmail.
Creating a distribution list in Webmail is simple. You can add members to your distribution lists from your address book or type them in manually.
In the Navigation pane, click CONTACTS![]()
Click the
next to NEW » select Distribution List
The Untitled Distribution List dialog box appears.

In the List Name text box, type an appropriate name
In the Members text box, type the desired addresses
HINT: Separate addresses with a ";"
OR
Click on the Address Book icon
next to Members and select the desired addresses
NOTE: For more information on searching for contacts in the Address Book, refer to Using the Address Book Feature.
Click ADD TO LIST
The addresses in the Members text box are added to the list.
When you are finished, click SAVE AND CLOSE![]()
The distribution list is created.
You can use copy and paste to easily create distribution lists from existing lists of email addresses. This is best used for lengthy lists where you do not want to copy and paste email addresses individually using Add New. For example, you can use an existing
NOTES:
The email addresses in your list must be separated by semicolons (;).
If you want the Display name to be the person's name, you will have to edit individual members of the list once it is created.
From the program or message where you have the list of email addresses, select the list
Copy the list by pressing [Ctrl] + [C]
In the Navigation pane, click CONTACTS![]()
Click the
next to NEW » select Distribution List
The Untitled Distribution List dialog box appears.

In the List Name text box, type in an appropriate name
In the Members text box, paste the email addresses by pressing [Ctrl] + [V]
Verify that the addresses are separated by semicolons (;)
Click ADD TO LIST
The email addresses appear in both the Name and the Email columns.
When you are finished, click SAVE AND CLOSE![]()
The distribution list is created.
Sending a message to a distribution list is very similar to sending a message to a Contact.
From the Navigation pane, click CONTACTS![]()
Select the Distribution List that you want to send a message to
From the Standard toolbar, click NEW MESSAGE![]()
From the Navigation pane, click CONTACTS![]()
Right click the Distribution List you want to send to » select New Message
