Configuring a Charter Pipeline Cable Modem for Macintosh OS X
This document will explain how to configure a Charter Pipeline cable modem for Macintosh OS X. Any questions concerning this procedure should be directed to the LTS Help Desk (836-5711 or helpdesk@uwec.edu). The sections of this document should generally be accessed in the following order:
Unlocking the System Preferences
Before you can connect with your cable modem, you must unlock the System Preferences for your Network settings.

From the Apple menu, select System Preferences...
The System Preferences dialog box appears. -
From the Navigation toolbar, click NETWORK
In the lower right corner of the dialog box, the lock icon
appears. -
If a Click the lock to prevent further changes message appears next to the lock, continue on to Configuring TCP/IP
If a Click the lock to make changes message appears next to the lock, click the lock icon and enter your administrator username and password
NOTE: An administrator username and password is set the first time you start your machine and run through the set up process. This username and password is necessary for any substantial system change or when system settings need to be unlocked in order to be changed.
Configuring TCP/IP
Once you have successfully unlocked the System Preferences, you will need to configure Mac OS X for TCP/IP. These instructions assume you already have the Network dialog box open.

In the Network dialog box, from the Show pull-down list, select Built-in Ethernet

Select the TCP/IP tab

From the Configure pull-down list, select Using DHCP

In the Search Domains text box, type uwec.edu

Click APPLY NOW

From the File menu, select Quit
TCP/IP is configured on your machine and you can connect to the UW-Eau Claire server.
