Printing Options

Internet Explorer gives a variety of options when printing web pages. This document describes the following:

Before printing a web page, you may want to preview how the page will look.

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page you would like to print

  2. From the File menu, select Print Preview...
    The Print Preview window appears.

  3. To navigate between pages, click PREVIOUS PAGEPrevious Page or NEXT PAGENext Page

  4. To print the page, click PRINT...
    OR
    To return to the browser without printing, click CLOSE

Printing only the current page you are viewing is very useful when printing from a web page that will print on multiple pages. If the information that you need to print is only on one page, it is unnecessary and time consuming to print all pages of a long page.

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page you would like to print

  2. From the File menu, select Print Preview...
    The Print Preview window appears.
    NOTE: A Print Preview must be performed in order for Internet Explorer to determine what portion of each the web page prints on each sheet of paper.

  3. To navigate to the page you would like printed, click NEXT PAGENext Page or PREVIOUS PAGEPrevious Page

  4. Click PRINT...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  5. In the General tab, within the Page Range section, select Current Page

  6. In the Select Printer section, verify the printer selection

  7. In the Number of copies section, select the appropriate number of copies

  8. Click PRINT

Printing only the selected text can be very useful when a specific portion of the web page needs to be printed.

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page you would like to print

  2. Select the text you would like to print

  3. From the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  4. In the General tab, within the Page Range section, select Selection

  5. In the Select Printer section, verify the printer selection

  6. In the Number of copies section, select the appropriate number of copies

  7. Click PRINT

There are a few options when printing a web page with frames. You can print all the frames as they appear on the screen, only the selected frame, or each frame separately. 

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page that you would like to print

  2. Click within the frame that you would like to print, if applicable

  3. From the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  4. Select the Options tab

  5. From the Print Frames section, select the appropriate option

  7. In the Select Printer section, verify the printer selection

  8. In the Number of copies section, select the appropriate number of copies

  9. Click PRINT

You have the option to print all the documents linked from the website, to print a table of links, or both. This is a quick and easy way to print all the documents within a comprehensive website. This can be done to sites with or without frames. 

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page that you would like to print

  2. From the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  3. Select the Options tab

  4. Select Print all linked documents or Print table of links

  5. Select the General tab

  6. In the Select Printer section, verify the printer selection

  7. In the Number of copies section, select the appropriate number of copies

  8. Click PRINT

Printing in landscape orientation is useful when the website is wider than a sheet of paper, which is typically also the width of a maximized browser window. If there is important information that you need to scroll to the side to see, generally printing in landscape orientation would be advisable.

Changes that you make to the page orientation setting remain in effect until you change them again or end your Internet Explorer session.

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page that you would like to print

  2. From the File menu, select Page Setup...
    The Page Setup dialog box appears.

  3. In the Orientation section, select Landscape

  4. Click OK

  5. Proceed with printing

The location of this setting within the Print dialog box may vary depending on your computer and printer set up.

  1. Open Internet Explorer to the web page that you would like to print

  2. From the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  3. Click PREFERENCES
    The Printing Preferences dialog box appears.

  4. Select the Basics tab

  5. From the Orientation section, select Landscape

  6. Click OK
    You are returned to the Print dialog box.

  7. In the Select Printer section, verify the printer selection

  8. In the Number of copies section, select the appropriate number of copies

  9. Click PRINT
