Once you open Internet Explorer the UW-Eau Claire homepage will appear.
To open Internet Explorer in a General Access lab (instructions in your office may vary but will be similar to the following):
From the Start menu, select Internet Explorer
OR
From the Quick Launch toolbar, click LAUNCH INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER
OR
From the Start menu, select All Programs » Internet & E-Mail » Internet Explorer
From the File menu, select Close
A link is a word or a graphic that will take you to another page when clicked. Links are often set off by underlining and/or by colored text. When the pointer moves over a link it will turn into a hand icon.
If you know the URL for the page you want to access, you can go directly to the page using the menus or the Address bar.
From the File menu, select Open...
The Open dialog box appears.
In the Open text box, type the URL
Click OK
The Address bar is at the top of the window and displays the current address or URL.
If the Address bar is not displayed, from the View menu, select Toolbars » Address Bar
Click within the Address bar
The current URL will be highlighted.
Type the new URL
Press [Enter]
OR
Click GO![]()
The BACK and FORWARD buttons maintain a list of URLs that have been visited in the current Internet Explorer session. Once you exit Internet Explorer, these URLs are lost.
History keeps track of all of the sites that you have visited in a customized time period.
On the Standard Buttons toolbar, click HISTORY![]()
The History panel appears on the left side of the window.
From the list of sites, select the site you want to revisit
HINT: If the site is not listed, you can locate the page again by typing in the URL or performing a search.
To close the History panel, click HISTORY again
OR
Click CLOSE
in the top right corner of the panel
Sometimes Internet Explorer may take a long time downloading information from a site and you may want to move on to something else. You can interrupt a document that is being loaded, and Internet Explorer will show you everything that has been downloaded to that point.
From the Standard Buttons toolbar, click STOP![]()
OR
Press [Escape]
