A template is a document with predefined settings and formatting that can be used to format new documents. For example, you can create a template for a newsletter with the margins, columns, and guides set, and use the same file to create all of your issues. Adobe InDesign CS2 can use template files from Adobe PageMaker 6.0 or later and QuarkXPress 3.3 or 4.1x.
NOTE: To convert documents created in QuarkXPress 5.0 or later, reopen the documents in QuarkXPress and save them into the 4.0 format.
Any publication design (e.g. resumes, newsletters, and brochures) can be saved as a template.
Design the basics of the publication
(e.g., set ruler and column guides, place graphics, and define styles)
From the File menu, select Save As...
The Save As dialog box appears.
From the Save in pull-down list and navigation window, select the desired save location
In the File name text box, type a name for the template
From the Save as type pull-down menu, select InDesign CS2 template
Click SAVE
The template is created.
You can use a template repeatedly for different publications. Each time you open the template, InDesign will open a new document based on the template layout. Changing these documents will not affect the template, so any changes made to the new document will need to be saved as a new file.
NOTE: InDesign can use template files from Adobe PageMaker 6.0 or later and QuarkXPress 3.3 or 4.1x.
From the File menu, select Open...
The Open a File dialog box appears.
Using the Look in pull-down list, navigate to and select the desired template
