Working with Homepages

A homepage is the web page that is displayed when you open Internet Explorer or click the HOME button. Internet Explorer 7 has added the option of setting multiple homepages, each of which opens in a separate tab.

return to topSetting the Primary Homepage

Most users will want a primary homepage that is central to their web browsing patterns (e.g., Google, Yahoo!, MSN), but you can set any web page as your homepage.

  1. Navigate to the desired web page

  2. Click theDown Arrow buttonon the HOME button » select Add or Change Home Page...
    The Add or Change Home Page dialog box appears.

  3. Select Use this webpage as your only home page

  4. Click YES
    The current page is set as your primary homepage.
    NOTES:
    From now on, opening Internet Explorer or clicking HOMEHome buttondirects you to this page.
    Any previous homepage settings are removed.

Previous versions of Internet Explorer allowed only one homepage. With tabbed browsing, however, Internet Explorer 7 lets you set multiple homepages.

By setting multiple homepages (i.e., a group of homepages), whenever you open Internet Explorer or click HOME, each of your homepages opens in a separate tab. This feature can be useful when you frequently visit the same set of web pages (e.g., Webmail, McIntyre Library, and Google).

  1. Navigate to the desired web page

  2. Click theDown Arrow buttonon the HOME button » select Add or Change Home Page...
    The Add or Change Home Page dialog box appears.

  3. Select Add this webpage to your home page tabs

  4. Click YES
    The current page is added as a tabbed homepage.
    NOTE: From now on, opening Internet Explorer or clicking HOMEHome buttondirects you to your primary homepage in one tab and opens this page in another tab.

  5. To include additional tabbed homepages, repeat steps 1–4

return to topSetting Multiple Tabs as Your Homepage

You can set a group of open tabs as multiple homepages. By doing this, when you open Internet Explorer or click the HOME button, all of these pages will open in separate tabs at the same time.

NOTE: Using this option will remove all current homepage settings.

  1. Using tabbed browsing, navigate to the desired web pages

  2. Click theDown Arrow buttonon the HOME button » select Add or Change Home Page...
    The Add or Change Home Page dialog box appears.

  3. Select Use the current tab set as your home page
    NOTE: This option is only visible when multiple tabs are open.

  4. Click YES
    The current group of active tabs becomes your new tabbed homepage set.

  1. Click theDown Arrow buttonon the HOME button » select Remove

  2. To remove an individual homepage, select the page » click YES
    To remove all homepages, select Remove All » click YES
    The selected homepages are removed.
