Changing Font Attributes

Internet Explorer 7 provides a variety of font options to display on-screen text. Changing font style and/or size can improve readability and impact the number of pages required when printing.

The Preferences dialog box allows you to change the typeface for two default font types.

NOTE: Some web pages will not allow you to change their preset fonts. To override this, refer to Overriding Established Font Settings.

  1. From the Command Bar, click TOOLSTools button» select Internet Options
    The Internet Options dialog box appears.

  2. Select the General tab

  3. In the Appearance section, click FONTS
    The Fonts dialog box appears.

  4. From the Language Script pull-down list, select the desired option
    NOTE: The default setting is Latin based.

  5. From the Webpage font list, select the desired font
    NOTE:The default setting is Times New Roman.

  6. From the Plain text font list, select the desired font
    NOTE:
    The default setting is Courier New.

  7. To save changes and close the Fonts dialog box, click OK
    To close the Fonts dialog box without saving, click CANCEL

  8. Click OK
    The Internet Options dialog box closes.

In addition to changing a web page's font style, you may also change its size.

NOTE: Some web pages will not allow you to change their preset font sizes. To override this, refer to Overriding Established Font Settings.

  1. From the Command Bar, click PAGEPage button» select Text Size » the desired text size
    The text changes size.

After changing font settings, you may not be able to see the changes you have made. This is because some web sites prevent users from changing their fonts and font sizes. Internet Explorer 7 allows you to override these settings.

NOTES:
When you override font settings, some web pages may not display properly.
When activated, these overrides will stay activated until you deactivate them.

  1. Click TOOLSTools button» select Internet Options
    The Internet Options dialog box appears.

  2. Select the General tab

  3. From the Appearance section, click ACCESSIBILITY
    The Accessibility dialog box appears.

  4. To override font styles, select Ignore font styles specified on webpages
    NOTE: To restore font style preferences, deselect the Ignore font styles specified on webpages.

  5. To override font sizes, select Ignore font sizes specified on webpages
    NOTE: To restore font size preferences, deselect the Ignore font sizes specified on webpages.

  6. Click OK
    The Accessibility dialog box closes.

  7. Click OK
    The Internet Options dialog box closes.
