Safely Removing USB Drives

A USB drive (also referred to as flash drives or portable memory) is small, lightweight, durable, and can store several gigabytes (GB). While they are durable, taking care to remove them properly can ensure their longevity.

Windows:

  1. At the bottom right of the screen, in the System Tray, click SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARESafely Remove Hardware icon
    If it is safe to remove the drive, a message similar to the one shown below will appear.
    HINT: If the message indicates that the device is still in use or that it cannot be removed, it may be that there is a process such as copying still in progress. Wait for a short time and try again.

  2. Remove the drive

Macintosh:

  1. On the desktop, press [control] and click the device icon » select Eject “device name”
