In addition to adjusting basic table elements, you can format tables with options such as borders, column/row header cells, and backgrounds. You can also distribute rows and columns evenly.
A border is a group of lines that mark the edges of cells and the edges of the table. You can specify the width and color of a border.
Place the insertion point within the table
From the Table menu, select Table Properties » Table
OR
Right click the table » select Table Properties...
The Table Properties dialog box appears.
In the Borders section, in the Size text box, type or use the nudge buttons for the desired size greater than zero
NOTES: A size of 0 (zero) means that the table will have no border. The greater the size, the wider the border.
Click OK
When choosing a border color, you can use a single color or two colors, which creates a 3-D effect.
WARNING: Not all browsers support colored borders. Also, the borders may look different when viewed from different browsers and versions of the same browser.

A header cell is a cell that labels the row or column it is in. The text within the header cell is made bold and is centered. Designating header cells improves readability for vision-impaired users. In the table of student assignments that follows, the header cells are the cells that contain the class name and the week.
