Filters provide a way to view only messages that meet specific criteria, providing an easier way to find needed messages. Only the messages that meet the criteria set by the filter will be visible in the folder, although other messages are still present in the folder and can be viewed by simply removing the filter. This document explains filtering options and how to add and remove filters.
There are many options available to you in Entourage that will help you filter your email messages. The following list defines some common filters.
Subject
Allows you to filter your messages by subject, providing you with two filtering options within the subject: starts with and contains.
From
Allows you to filter your messages by sender, providing you with two filtering options within searching for the sender: starts with and contains.
To
Allows you to filter your messages by who they are addressed to, providing you with two filtering options within searching for the recipient: starts with and contains.
Category is
Allows you to filter your messages by how they are categorized. All categories you have created are available. For more information about setting categories, refer to Assigning Contacts to Categories.
Project is
Allows you to filter your messages by project.
Choosing the appropriate filter depends on which messages you want to view. No matter what you choose, the process in Entourage is simple. These instructions provide an example of how to filter your folder by Subject.
From the Navigation pane, click MAIL![]()
From the Folder list, select the desired folder to filter
In the top right of the Mailbox pane, from the first Filter pull-down menu, select the desired filter

EXAMPLE: Select Subject
From the second Filter pull-down menu, select the desired filter option
EXAMPLE: Select contains
In the Search text box, type the desired criteria with which you would like to filter your selection
EXAMPLE: To view only messages that pertain to a group presentation, type Presentation
The filter is applied.
When you no longer want to view a folder through the filter, you can remove it.
From the top right of the Mailbox pane, click CLEAR![]()
