Microsoft Entourage 2004

Using Message Drafts

Using message drafts can save the time you spend recreating messages you send frequently. You can also save a message you have started, but do not have time to finish. This document explains how to create, duplicate, and send drafts.

return to top Creating Drafts

Creating a draft is much like creating an email message. The difference is that instead of sending the message, you save it to send later. If you send a particular message frequently, you can save a draft instead of recreating the message each time it needs to be sent. You may also create a draft to start a message that you are unable to complete.

  1. From the Navigation pane, click MAILMail button

  2. From the toolbar, click NEWNew button

  3. Press [return] twice
    OR
    Click within the Message text box

  4. In the Message text box, type the desired message

  5. On the toolbar, click SAVE AS DRAFTSave as Draft button
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  6. Click OK
    The message is placed in the Drafts folder in the Folder list.
    NOTE: This confirmation dialog box may not appear if someone has turned this feature off. In this case, the message will still be placed in the Drafts folder.

return to top Duplicating Drafts

You can use a draft for messages with standard content that you send regularly. Once you create the draft of a frequently used message, you must duplicate the draft before sending it. This saves the time it takes to create a new message each time. If you send a draft without duplicating it, your message will be sent without keeping a saved copy.

Entourage provides two places for you to save drafts: in your exchange (UWEC) account and on the hard drive of your computer, represented by the Folders on My Computer list. Message drafts always automatically save to your exchange account, but can only be duplicated from your hard drive. Before creating a saved duplicate of the message, you will need to copy the draft from your exchange account to your hard drive.

  1. From the Navigation pane, click MAILMail button

  2. From the Folder list, select Drafts

  3. Select the draft you would like to duplicate

  4. Drag the message to the Drafts folder under Folders on My Computer

  5. Release the mouse button
    The draft is copied to your hard drive.
    NOTE: This draft will now be present in both your exchange account and on your computer's hard drive.

  6. Under Folders on My Computer, select Drafts

  7. Select the draft you would like to duplicate

  8. Press [command] + [D]
    A duplicate message now appears in the Drafts folder.

  9. Continue by sending your draft
