You can use Categories to group related Calendar items. Categories can be used to classify different types of events and tasks. This document explains how to create, edit, assign, and change assigned categories.
When using Categories to organize your Calendar events and tasks, you may want to create personalized Categories. You can then assign these new categories to all appropriate entries. For more information on how to assign categories to entries, refer to Assigning Categories.
From the Edit menu, select Categories » Edit Categories
The Categories dialog box appears.
Click ADD CATEGORY![]()
An untitled entry appears in the Category list.
Type the name of the category you would like to add
Press [return]
The new category is created.
OPTIONAL: From the Color pull-down list, select the color you would like assigned to the new category
Once you have created a category, you can delete it, change its name, or change its color.
From the Edit menu, select Categories » Edit Categories
The Categories dialog box appears.

Select the category you would like deleted
Click DELETE CATEGORY
A confirmation dialog box appears.
Click DELETE
From the Edit menu, select Categories » Edit Categories
The Categories dialog box appears.
Double click the category you would like to rename
Make the appropriate changes
Press [return]
From the Edit menu, select Categories » Edit Categories
The Categories dialog box appears.
From the Color pull-down list next to the desired category, select the color you would like to assign the category
Once you have created Categories, you can assign them to your events and tasks.
In the Navigation pane, click CALENDAR ![]()
Double click the existing task or event you would like to assign a category to
The task/event opens.
On the toolbar, click
next to Categories
Select the appropriate Category
Click SAVE![]()
Close the dialog box
Assigning a Category using the Menu only works for existing tasks and events.
Select the task or event you would like to assign a category to
From the Edit menu, select Categories » the desired category
A checkmark appears when the category is selected.
If a current Category is no longer appropriate or if you want to add an additional Category, you can make the appropriate changes at any time.
Select the task or event that you would like to change the category for
From the Edit menu, select Categories » the desired category
A checkmark appears when the category is selected.
You may select more than one category. If you do so, Entourage uses the most recently selected choice as the display choice.
