Working with the Pager

The Pager is a messaging system you can use to contact other users in D2L. Users enrolled in a course can page each other with questions and discuss the class. To change the Incoming page Icon and the Incoming page Sound, refer to Changing Pager Settings.

CAUTION:
This tool is not reliable and is a known issue with D2L. If you have questions or concerns, please contact D2Lhelp@uwec.edu.

NOTICE: This tool has been disabled for UW-Eau Claire users as of February 27, 2008 for the reasons stated above.

Since users can receive your page only when they are online, it is useful to view which users are currently online.

  1. From the My Home page, select the desired course
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. On the Navigation bar, click CLASSLIST
    NOTE: To view classmates, select the Students tab.
    Users highlighted with a yellow background are currently online.

Sending a page in Desire2Learn is quick and easy. You can either select a recipient from the Classlist or use the Pager dialog box.

Sending a Page: Classlist Option

  1. From the My Home page, select the desired course
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. On the Navigation bar, click CLASSLIST
    The Classlist page appears.
    NOTE: Users highlighted with a yellow background are currently online.

  3. In the Name column, click the name of the person to which you would like to send a page
    The Send Page dialog box appears.

  4. In the Message scroll box, type the message you wish to send

  5. Click SEND

Sending a Page: Pager Option

  1. On the Navigation bar, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click the username of the person you wish to page
    OR
    To select a recipient,
    1. Click NEW PAGE
      The Send Page dialog box appears.
    2. Click TO
    3. Select the recipient
    4. Click OK

  3. In the Message scroll box, type the message

  4. Click SEND
    If the contact responds, you can continue conversing with each other by typing messages and clicking SEND.

  5. Click CLOSE

When someone has sent you a page, the Pager illuminates green and reads Page.Incoming Page icon

  1. To view the sender and the message, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Page dialog box appears.

  2. To reply to the page,
    1. Click REPLY
      The Send Page dialog box appears.
    2. In the Message scroll box, type your message
    3. Click SEND

You can add a contact to your contact list to make paging easier.

Adding a Known Contact

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click ADD
    The Add Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select Add a Known Contact

  4. In the text box, type the username

  5. Click ADD

Adding Classmates

You can add classmates from any of your Desire2Learn courses to your pager contact list.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click ADD
    The Add Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select Add Classmate(s)

  4. From the Choose a class to select contacts from pull-down list, select a class
    The class list for that class appears.

  5. Select the user(s) you wish to add
    NOTE: A checkmark appears when a user is selected.

  6. Click ADD

  7. Close the Add Contact dialog box

  8. When finished, click CLOSE
    The users are added to your Personal Contacts list.

return to topRemoving a Contact

If you have added a contact to your Personal Contacts list and would no longer like them on your list, they can easily be removed.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Click REMOVE
    The Remove Contact dialog box appears.

  3. Select the contact(s) you wish to remove
    NOTE: A checkmark appears when a contact is selected.

  4. Click REMOVE

  5. In the Remove Contact dialog box, click CLOSE

  6. When finished, in the Pager dialog box, click CLOSE

You can view the history of your pager communications with a specific user.

  1. On the Navigation toolbar, click OPEN PAGER TOOL IN A NEW WINDOWOpen Pager Tool in a New Window icon
    The Pager dialog box appears.

  2. Next to the desired user, click HISTORYHistory icon
    The History dialog box appears.

  3. Once you have viewed the history, click CLOSE

  4. In the Pager dialog box, click CLOSE
