Desire2Learn allows you to link to discussions right from a course content area. This allows users to easily discuss the topic with just one click, instead of having to access through the Discussion area.
NOTE: These instructions assume that the discussion topic has been created. For information on creating a discussion, refer to Starting a Discussion.
You can create a link within the Course Content area that links directly to a discussion.
From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT
The Manage Content pane appears.
For the desired module, click ADD TOPIC![]()
The New Topic pane appears.
Click QUICKLINK![]()
The New Topic - QuickLink pane appears.

From the Parent Module pull-down menu, select the desired module for the link to be displayed under
In the Title text box, type the desired topic title
OPTIONAL: In the Short Title text box, type the desired short title
Click INSERT A QUICKLINK![]()
The Insert QuickLink dialog box appears.

From the Category pull-down list, select Discussions
The dialog box refreshes.
From the Discussions pull-down list, select the desired discussion topic
Click INSERT
The Insert Quicklink window closes.
Click SAVE
The Content Manager pane appears.
The link now appears in the Content area. When students click the link, they will be taken directly to the linked discussion.
You can create a link within a course (HTML) document that links directly to a discussion.
From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT
The Manage Content pane appears.
For the topic in which you want to create the link, click EDIT![]()
HINT: You can only create links in an HTML document.
The Edit Topic pane appears.
Place your insertion point in the HTML text box
In the HTML editor, select the Advanced tab
Click INSERT QUICKLINK![]()

From the Category pull-down menu, select Discussions
From the Item pull-down menu, select the desired discussion topic
In the Link Caption text box, type the text for the link
For Open in, select the desired link opening method
EXAMPLE: Select New Window for the discussion to be opened in a new window.
Click INSERT
The QuickLink is inserted.
The Edit Topic dialog box appears.
Click SAVE
The QuickLink is saved.
Click CANCEL
