Working with Your Personal Homepage

Instructors can create a personal homepage in Desire2Learn. Your personal homepage allows you to share information about yourself with members of all your classes. there are two ways to create a personal homepage: you can use Desire2Learn's HTML Editor or you can upload an existing web page that was created using other web editing software.

Creating Your Homepage: HTML Editor Option

This option is a two-step process. After you create the HTML file, you can then edit the page. The HTML Editor for homepages allows you to use both Design and HTML views to create the page.

HINT: HTML view requires that you use the HTML code. For more information, refer to A Summary of HTML Codes.

  1. In the My Eau Claire Courses widget, click any course
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. In the Welcome Box widget, click HOMEPAGE

  3. Click NEWNew Homepage button
    The Explorer User Prompt dialog box appears.

  4. In the text box, type a name for your homepage file
    NOTE: The default extension will be .html. To change the extension to .htm, when finished typing the name, type .htm.

  5. Click OK
    The file you created is added to the My Homepage pane.

  6. To edit your homepage (i.e., to add content)
    1. In the My Homepage pane, for the file you want to edit, click EDITEdit button
      The HTML Editor appears.

    2. Add text and images to the page
      For more information, refer to Using HTML Editor.

  7. When finished adding text and images, click SAVE

  8. Click CLOSE
    You are returned to the My Homepage pane.

  9. To designate this file as your homepage, click MAKE THIS MY HOMEPAGEMake This My Homepage button
    This file is set as your homepage.

Creating Your Homepage: Existing File Option

If you prefer, you can create your homepage in a web editor such as Dreamweaver. Then, you can upload the file to Desire2Learn.

  1. In the My Eau Claire Courses widget, click any course
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. In the Welcome Box widget, click HOMEPAGE
    The My Homepage pane appears.

  3. In the My Homepage section, click UPLOADUpload button
    The File Upload dialog box appears.

  4. In the File text box, type the path and filename of the file
    OR
    To select the file,
    1. Click BROWSE...
      The Choose file dialog box opens.
    2. Using the Look in pull-down menu, navigate to and select the file

    3. Click OPEN
      You are returned to the File Upload dialog box

  5. Click UPLOAD
    The file is added to the My Homepage pane.

  6. To designate the file as your homepage, click MAKE THIS MY HOMEPAGEMake This My Homepage button
    This file is set as your homepage.

Viewing the homepages of students in your class can help you learn more about them.

  1. From the My Home page, in the My Eau Claire Courses widget, select the course for which you want to view homepages
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. On the Navigation bar, click CLASSLIST
    The list of class members appears.

  3. Next to the class member whose homepage you want to view, click VIEW HOMEPAGEView Homepage button
    That class member's homepage appears.

If you no longer need or use a homepage, you can remove it from Desire2Learn.

  1. In the My Eau Claire Courses widget, click any course
    The Course Home page appears.

  2. In the Welcome Box widget, click HOMEPAGE
    The My Homepage pane appears.

  3. Next to the file you wish to delete, click DELETEDelete button
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  4. Click OK
    The homepage file is deleted.
