Working with the Grades Tool

The Desire2Learn Grades Tool allows instructors to keep an online record of their students' scores on assignments within the User List. Assignments and scores can be added, edited, or deleted. You can also import grades from an outside file or export scores to a text editor or Excel.

return to topAdding Grade Items

You can add grade items (assignments or other graded activities) and designate their name, point value, weight, and date.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. In the Grades Area widget, click MANAGE GRADES

  3. Click NEW ITEMNew Item button
    The New Item pane appears.

  4. In the Choose a Grade Item Type section, select the desired type of grade item
    Options for that grade item type appear.

  5. Complete the remainder of the General section as appropriate

  6. Complete the remainder of the Grading section as appropriate
    NOTE: Options will vary based upon whether you are using a Points or Weighted grade system.

  7. OPTIONAL: On the Restrictions tab, in the General section, select the desired level of visibility

  8. After you have made the desired changes, click SAVE
    The grade item is added.

return to topEditing Grade Items

You can edit all the information regarding a grade item except the type. This includes changing the name of a grade item, the weight, and the description.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. In the Grades Area widget, click MANAGE GRADES
    The Grades List appears.

  3. Click the name of the grade item you want to edit
    The Edit Item pane appears.

  4. Make the desired changes

  5. Click SAVE
    The grade item is edited.

return to top Deleting Grade Items

You can delete grade items at any time.

WARNING: All grades corresponding to the grade item will be lost.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. In the Grades Area widget, click MANAGE GRADES
    The Grades List appears.

  3. Click DELETE
    The Delete pane appears.

  4. Select the item you wish to delete
    NOTE: An item is selected if a checkmark appears before it.

  5. Click DELETE SELECTED
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  6. Click DELETE
    The grade item is deleted.

Editing grades allows faculty to manually adjust grades.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. In the Grades Area widget, click MANAGE GRADES

  3. For the item you want to edit, click ENTER GRADESEnter Grades button
    The Grade Item pane appears.

  4. Make the desired changes

  5. When finished, click SAVE
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  6. Click SAVE
    The grade is edited.
