Linking to eReserve Articles

Articles, cases from texts, and other readings can be put on electronic reserve through McIntyre Library. Once the articles are on eReserve, you can place links in your course Content area for easy access by your students. For more information on using eReserve through McIntyre Library, refer to Placing in Reserve.

These instructions show you how to create a topic link to an individual article on eReserve using Create New File. It is recommended to create an HTML file in your Content area to ensure that the link will work consistently.

NOTE: Due to file size, some eReserve articles are divided into multiple parts. In those cases, you will need to create a link to each part separately.

  1. From the McIntyre Library homepage, click COURSE RESERVES
    The Voyager Catalog opens with the Course Reserves tab selected.

  2. From the Instructor pull-down menu, select your name

  3. From the Department pull-down menu, select your department

  4. From the Course pull-down menu, select the appropriate course

  5. Click SEARCH
    The list of reserved articles for the selected course appears.

  6. Click the first article you wish to link
    A page with more details about the article opens.

  7. On the page that opens, right click the E-Items link » select Copy Shortcut
    HINTS:
    The link should say Electronic Reserve.
    If it does not say Electronic Reserve, the article is a print reserve article. The location where the article can be obtained should appear on the page.

  8. Open your D2L course

  9. From the Course Home page, click CONTENT
    The Manage Content pane appears.

  10. Click NEW TOPIC
    The New Topic pane appears.

  11. Click CREATE NEW FILE
    The New Topic - Create New File pane appears.

  12. From the Parent Module pull-down menu, select the module this topic will appear under

  13. In the Title text box, type the desired title

  14. OPTIONAL: In the Short Title text box, type an abbreviated title

  15. In the HTML Editor, type the topic's content

  16. To link text to the article,
    1. In the HTML Editor, select the Advanced tab
    2. Click INSERT QUICKLINKInsert QuickLink button
      The Insert a QuickLink dialog box appears.
    3. From the Category pull-down menu, select Url
      The Insert QuickLink dialog box refreshes.

    4. In the Url text box, paste the article shortcut that you copied in step 8
    5. In the Link Caption text box, type the text that should be linked
    6. In the Open In section, select how you would like the article to open
    7. Click INSERT
      You are returned to the New Topic - Create New File pane.

  17. To save this topic, click SAVE
    To save this topic and create another one, click SAVE & NEW
    A link to your eReserve article is created in the course Content area.

These instructions show you how to create a link to the complete list of articles on eReserve for your course using QuickLink. For more detailed information on creating topics this way, refer to Creating Topics with QuickLink.

  1. Go to: http://lib1.uwec.edu/Reserve/CourseReserveLinkGenerator.asp

  2. From the Select an instructor pull-down menu, select your name
    A listing of all of your courses containing eReserve materials appears.

  3. Under Course, right click the course name » select Copy Shortcut

  4. Open your D2L course

  5. Click CONTENT

  6. Add a new topic using QuickLink
    1. In the Title text box, type the article title
    2. OPTIONAL: In the Short Title text box, type an abbreviated title
    3. In the URL text box, right click » select Paste
      HINT: You are pasting the shortcut you copied in step 3.
    4. Click SAVE
      A link to your course eReserve articles listing is created in the course Content area.
