Creating Surveys

Using Desire2Learn can be an easy way to distribute surveys and tabulate results. You can create several types of survey questions, including long answer, fill in the blank, multiple choice, and Likert scale. You can also restrict availability of the survey and specify the results' release.

Creating the survey is just the first step. This document walks you through the Properties tab of the New Survey dialog box. For more related topics, refer to Setting Survey Restrictions and Creating Survey Questions.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click SURVEY
    The Manage Surveys pane appears.
    NOTE: To add Survey to the Navigation bar, see Customizing the Navigation Bars.

  2. Click NEW New button
    The Manage Surveys - New pane appears.

  3. On the Properties tab, in the General section, in the Name text box, type a name for the survey

  4. To place the new survey into a category, from the Category pull-down menu, select the desired category
    To add a new category,
    1. Click [ADD CATEGORY]
      The Add New Category dialog box appears
    2. In the Name text box, type a name for the new category
    3. Click SAVE
      The new category is saved and the Add New Category pane closes.

  5. If you want question feedback available at all times, select give instant feedback
    NOTE: The option is selected if a checkmark appears before it.

  6. To allow anonymous completion of the survey, select make results anonymous
    NOTE: The option is selected if a checkmark appears before it.

  7. If the Messages options are not displayed, in the Messages section, click EXPAND MESSAGES

  8. To enable a description, above the Description text box, select on

  9. In the Description text box, type a description of the survey

  10. In the Submission Message text box, type a message to be displayed when users submit the survey

  11. If the Page Footer options are not displayed, in the Page Footer section, click EXPAND PAGE FOOTER

  12. To enable a Page Footer, above the Page Footer text box, select on

  13. In the Page Footer text box, type a message to appear at the bottom of the survey

  14. Click SAVE SURVEY
    The new survey is saved.
