Entering Student Grades

Once your gradebook is set up, you can begin entering students' grades. To enter grades, you must have grade items set up. See Working with Grade Items to learn about grade items. If you are new to the gradebook, see Gradebook: Setup Wizard to begin.

You can enter student grades through the User List or the Grades List.

Understanding the buttons in the Grade Item pane makes entering grades much easier. The table below explains these buttons.

Button Description
Event Log button Opens Event Log dialog box, which shows when the item was modified
Grade All button Opens the Grade All dialog box, allowing you to enter one grade for all users for the item
Clear All button Clears grades for all users for the item; any grades that were entered will be deleted
Enter Grade for All Selected Users button Opens the Grade Selected dialog box, entering one grade for all selected users for the item
Clear Grades for All Selected Users button Clears grades for all selected users for the item; any grades that were entered will be deleted
Email Selected Users button Opens Compose New Message dialog box and addresses message to all selected users
Enter Comments button Opens Grade Comments for a particular user
View Event Log button Opens Event Log dialog box, showing when grades for a particular user were modified

You can access the Grade Item pane from the User List pane.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. Next to the grade item or category you wish to enter grades for, click ENTER GRADESEnter Grades button
    The Grade Item or Grade Category pane appears.

  3. Grade Item pane: Users section
  4. Enter a comment for the entire class in the Overall Comments (visible to all) text box

  5. In the Users section, in the Grade column, enter the grade for each student in the corresponding text box

  6. Enter a comment for a particular student by clicking ENTER COMMENTS Enter Comments button

  7. Click SAVE
    A confirmation dialog box appears.

  8. Click YES
    The grades are saved.

You can access the Grade Item pane from the Grades List pane.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click GRADES
    The User List pane appears.

  2. In the Grades Area widget, click MANAGE GRADESManage Grades button
    The Grades List pane appears.

  3. For the item or category you wish to enter grades for, in the Actions column, click ENTER GRADESEnter Grades button
    The Grade Item or Grade Category pane appears.

  5. Enter a comment for the entire class in the Overall Comments (visible to all) text box

  6. In the Users section, in the Grade column, enter the grade for each student in the corresponding text box

  7. Enter a comment for a particular student by clicking ENTER COMMENTS Enter Comments button
