Content and File Management FAQs

Because D2L is displayed in frames, the browser does not always know exactly what you want to print from the screen if you try to print using File » Print or [Ctrl] + [P]. Instead, follow these steps to ensure that your files will print correctly from Content.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT

  2. In the Content Areas widget, click VIEW CONTENT

  3. Click PRINT/DOWNLOADPrint/Download button

  4. Select the document you wish to print
    HINT: A document is selected when a checkmark appears next to it.

  5. Click VIEW PRINTABLE VERSIONView Printable Version button
    The Printable View window appears.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT

  2. In the Content Areas widget, click VIEW CONTENT

  3. Click PRINT/DOWNLOADPrint/Download button

  4. Select the document(s) that you wish to print

Yes. You may want to create a custom look for a class or to draw emphasis to different parts of the class.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT

  2. In the Content Areas widget, click SETTINGS

  3. In the Content Home section, select Create a custom 'Content Home' page from a file

  4. Click BROWSE
    The Select a file dialog box appears.

  5. Click MY COMPUTER

  6. Click BROWSE
    The Choose file dialog box appears.

  7. Navigate to and select the desired file

  8. Click OPEN

  9. Click UPLOAD
    You are returned to the Main Page pane.

  10. Click SAVE

return to topWhat is the best way to post PowerPoint files on D2L?

PowerPoint files are best posted in PDF format. It will take less time for the students to download the file.

  1. In PowerPoint, from the OFFICE button, select Print » Print
    The Print dialog box appears.

  2. From the Name pull-down menu, select Adobe PDF

  3. From the Print what pull-down menu, select Handouts

  4. Click OK
    The Save PDF File As dialog box appears.

  5. Name the PDF file

  6. Click SAVE

  7. Upload the PDF to your D2L course and link in Content

You can either link to one article at a time or the entire listing of eReserve articles for your course.

return to topCan I post video, audio or any other multimedia in my D2L course?

You can link to youtube videos and other online content in either the Links or Content section.

You can post multimedia files under 10 megabytes in D2L. Use one of the file types in the following table:

If the file you want to post is over 10 megabytes, it should be streamed. Contact the Help Desk to have large files put on the streaming server, or if you have any other questions about posting multimedia in D2L.

return to topHow can I remove the enumeration from my Content page?

To remove all enumeration, follow these steps:

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT

  2. In the Content Areas widget, click SETTINGS

  3. Click ENUMERATIONSEnumerations button

  4. For each row, in the Before Enumeration text boxes, delete all text

  5. For each row, from the Enumeration pull-down menu, select no enumeration

  6. For each row in the After Enumeration text boxes, delete all text

  7. Click SAVE

To modify the enumeration, follow these steps:

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click CONTENT

  2. In the Content Areas widget, click SETTINGS

  3. Click ENUMERATIONSEnumerations button

  4. Make the desired changes

  5. Click SAVE
