Discussions: Viewing Statistics

Viewing discussion statistics provides the instructor with information to help him or her keep track of the class discussion activities. These activities include the number of messages authored or read by a specific student.

Viewing statistics by users allows the instructor to view each student's activity in discussions. This is helpful if discussion participation is required and students are being graded on their activity. Desire2Learn provides a chart showing how many messages a student has read and posted. You can also view the statistics for members of a group.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DISCUSSIONS
    The Forums & Topics List pane appears.

  2. In the left column, in the Discussion Areas widget, click STATISTICSView Statistics icon

  3. Select the Users tab

  4. In the User Statistics area, from the View By pull-down menu, select User

  5. Click APPLY

  6. To view more detailed statistics for each user, click the desired name

  7. To view groups, from the View By pull-down menu, select Groups

  8. Click APPLY
    The Groups pull-down menu appears.

  9. From the Groups pull-down menu, select a group

  10. Click APPLY
    The members of the group are displayed.

  11. To view more detailed statistics for a user, click the desired name

  12. When finished, in the Discussion Areas widget, click DISCUSSIONS LISTDiscussions List button
    You are returned to the Forums & Topics List pane.

Viewing statistics by forums and topics allows the instructor to view how many posts exist in each topic.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the Navigation bar, click DISCUSSIONS
    The Forums and Topics List page appears.

  2. In the left column, in the Discussion Areas widget, click STATISTICSView Statistics icon
    The Statistics pane appears.

  3. Select the Forums and Topics tab

  4. To view more detailed statistics for each topic, click the desired topic

  5. When finished, in the Discussion Areas widget, click DISCUSSIONS LISTDiscussions List button
    You are returned to the Forums & Topics List pane.
