The Navigation bars provide quick links to different areas of the online course material. You can edit the Navigation bars by activating or deactivating links, creating new links, modifying custom links, and changing the toolbar's format.
Customizing the Navigation bars begins with the Edit Navbar pane.
From the My Home page, in the My Eau Claire Courses widget, select the desired course
The Course Home page appears.
From any page, on the top most Navigation bar, on the left side, click EDIT NAVBAR![]()
OR
For access from the Course Administration,
In the Name column, select the desired course navigation bar
The Edit Navbar pane appears.
Select the Links tab
If a link is active, it will appear on the Navigation bar; if it is inactive, it will not appear on the Navigation bar.
NOTE: It is recommended that the Bottom Left Link Area be used for the course tools.
In the link area you want to edit, click ADD LINKS![]()
In the Links List, choose the link(s) you want to add to the link area
NOTE: Only select links from one page of the Links List at a time; changing pages will unselect any links you have selected. To view all links as one page, select 50 in the Results Per Page pull-down menu.
Click ADD
The link will appear in Navbar Links under the link area.
Click REFRESH to see your updated links in the Navigation bar
Links to My Home, Course Home and Content should remain active. These links allow for efficient navigation of D2L. If they are deactivated, students will be unable to access them. All other links are optional.
HINT: Remove links and tools not used in the course to avoid confusion.
In the Links tab, to the right of the link you want to deactivate, click the arrow![]()
Select Remove from navbar ![]()
A confirmation dialog box appears.
Click YES
The link will be gone from the link area in Navbar Links.
To preview your changes,
If you want to be able to access external links from the Navigation bar, you can add new links to it.
NOTE: It is recommended that the Bottom Left region be used for course tools and links.
Select the Links tab
To the right of the link area you want to edit, click the arrow![]()
Click ADD NEW CUSTOM LINK
The New Custom Link dialog box appears.

In the Name text box, type the link name
NOTE: This text will appear on the Navigation bar.
OPTIONAL: To use an image for the link, in the Icon section, select Custom
In the URL text box, type the link URL
OR
To select a course file,

In Window select Same Window with Navbar, Entire Window, or New Window
NOTE:
If you select New Window, you can specify the size of the window.
To save your changes, click SAVE AND CLOSE
The link is created.
After you have created links, you may wish to change them. Desire2Learn allows you to edit your links as well as change their order and location.
You may modify the URL and target information only for existing custom links.
To the right of the custom link to be edited, click the arrow![]()
Click EDIT CUSTOM LINK
The Edit Custom Link dialog box appears.
Make the desired changes
To save your changes, click SAVE AND CLOSE
The link is modified.
To preview your changes,
To the right of the link to be moved left or right, click the arrow![]()
To position the link in the desired location, click MOVE LEFT
or MOVE RIGHT![]()
The link is moved.
To preview your changes,
To the right of the link to be moved, click the arrow
Click MOVE LINK TO...![]()
The Move Link To dialog box appears.
Select the desired Link Area
The link is moved.
