The Course Builder allows you to create and manage much of your course in one place. Instead of going separately to Discussions, Quizzes, Content, and Dropbox, you can create and organize objects for all those tools in the Course Builder. For an explanation of the buttons and terms, see The Course Builder Environment.
The Course Builder can be found under the Course Administration Tools.
Access the Course Home page
On the Navigation bar, click EDIT COURSE
In the Design section, click COURSE BUILDER
The Course Builder welcome page appears. Click the links for more information.
The first step in using the Course Builder is to create modules. These are the major units your course is divided into. Modules allow you to organize course materials.
In the Toolbox, click CREATE A MODULE 
The Select a location dialog box appears.
To select a location,
In the Name text box, type a name for the module
Click CREATE
The module appears in the Course Builder Canvas.
Once you have created modules, you can begin to put objects in them. If you know that you want a certain object in a module (e.g., a discussion) but are not ready to create the object, you can create a placeholder. Later you can fill the placeholder with the desired object.
Click START
The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear. All your current modules will be listed in the Course Builder Canvas pane under the course name.
To see the objects under a module, click EXPAND ![]()

In the Build Structure section of the Toolbox, click the desired button

The Select a location dialog box appears.

Select the desired location
The Create Placeholder dialog box appears.
OPTIONAL: In the Name text box, change the object name
Click CREATE
The object appears in the Course Builder Canvas.
You can create objects to fill placeholders, or skip placeholders altogether, and put objects directly into modules.
Click START
The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear.
In the Create Objects section of the Toolbox pane, click the desired button

The Select a location dialog box appears.
Select the name of the desired module
The New [Object Type] dialog box appears.
Fill in the appropriate information
If you have created objects in other Desire2Learn tools, you can add them to the Course Builder with Browse Objects.
Click START
The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear.
In the Browse Objects section of the Toolbox pane, click on the desired object type
EXAMPLE: Click Course Files![]()
The [Object Type] options appear in the Toolbox.
Navigate to the desired location
Click the desired object
Click ADD TO COURSE
The Select a location dialog box appears.
Select a location
The object appears in the Course Builder Canvas.
Once you have created your modules and objects, you may decide to change their order. Reordering is very easy in the Course Builder.
Click START
The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear.
Click on the module you wish to move
Holding down the mouse button, drag the module to the desired location
NOTE: If you are moving the module into a second module, the second module will have an orange background and expand to show the objects within the module.

NOTE: If you are moving the module but not placing it into a second module, a black line will appear at its future location.
When you are happy with the module's location, release the mouse button
The module will appear in its new location.
Once you have created your objects, you may wish to reorder them.
Click START
The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear.
To see the objects in a module, click EXPAND ![]()
Click on the object you wish to move
Holding down the mouse button, drag the object to the desired location
When you are happy with the object's location, release the mouse button
The object will appear in its new location.
NOTE: You can move objects between as well as within modules.
