The Printer Properties Dialog Box

With the Printer Properties dialog box you are able to modify what you print to better fit your needs. You have the ability to choose the layout, the number of copies, and the number of pages to be printed per sheet.

The Printer Properties dialog box can be easily accessed every time you print a document.

  1. From the File menu, select Print...
    OR
    From the File toolbar, click PRINTPrint button
    The Print dialog box appears.

  2. In the Printer section, from the Name pull-down list, select your printer

  3. In the Printer section, click PROPERTIES
    The Printer Properties dialog box appears.
    NOTE: Depending on your printer setup, the options in the Printer Properties dialog box will vary.

  4. Select the Finishing, Effects, Paper, or Basics tab and the corresponding desired options

  5. Click OK

Finishing options in the Printer Properties dialog box allow you to choose the print quality, the number of pages per sheet, and the order you would like your pages to print.

Print Task Quick Sets
Available on every tab, this allows you to save a combination of printing options, which saves you time if you use them regularly.

Document Options
Allows you to set the number of pages to print per sheet. If you choose to print more than one page per sheet of paper, you can also select the order in which to print the pages and whether to show the page borders.

Print Quality
Allows you to set print quality. You could use a lower quality (e.g., 300 dpi) for drafts or everyday printing and use a higher quality (e.g., Best Quality) setting for final or public drafts. The Details... button provides additional settings for graphics, output resolution, and fonts.

Effects options in the Printer Properties dialog box allow you to add a watermark to your document, specify the paper size you will be using, and decide the percentage at which you would like to print.

ZoomSmart
Print Document On allows you to specify the size of the paper you will be printing on. If your publication was not created on the same size paper that you have selected, you have the Scale to Fit option, which will print the best fit of your publication on the paper you chose. Another zoom option available is % of Normal Size. You select the percentage at which your publication will print. The preview thumbnail shows the location and relative size that will be produced.

Watermarks
Allows you to add a watermark (e.g., Confidential) to your PDF document when printing. You can choose to print it on the first page only. The EDIT button allows you to change the font, color, size, and text of the watermark.

The Paper options in the Printer Properties dialog box allow you to choose the size, source, and type of paper you will be using to print your document.

All Pages
If your printer has multiple feed trays, you can choose to Use different paper for the first page. You can specify a pre-set or custom size paper and the source (tray) that the paper is in. You can also specify the type of paper (e.g., card stock).

The Basics options in the Printer Properties dialog box allow you to choose the number of copies you would like to print and the orientation of your pages.

Copies
Allows you to specify how many copies to print.

Orientation
Allows you to set the orientation to Portrait (vertical) or Landscape (horizontal). The rotation option rotates the output 180 degrees, allowing you to feed paper or an envelope by the opposite edge indicated by your printer.
