The Commenting tools allow you to add notes, stamps, and document or sound files to a PDF file. This document explains how to use these Commenting tools.
NOTE: You can also add graphic and text markup to your PDF files. For more information refer to Using the Text Markup Tools or Using Graphic Markup Tools.
To view the tools that will allow you to annotate your PDF document with notes, stamps, or attached files, follow these instructions.
From the View menu, select Toolbars » Commenting
The Commenting toolbar appears.

On the Commenting toolbar, click NOTE TOOL![]()
Click on the text where you would like to add a note
The Pop-up Note appears.
In the Pop-up Note, type a comment
Close the Pop-up Note
To view comments, click the note balloon![]()
The Stamp Tool allows you to add stamps to your PDF document much like a rubber stamp. For example, you can add stamps that say "Approved" or "Initial Here."
On the Commenting toolbar, click the arrow
next to the STAMP TOOL ![]()

Select the desired stamp
If this is the first time you have used the Stamp Tool, the Identity Setup dialog box appears.

Complete the desired fields
Click COMPLETE
To place the stamp as it appears, position your mouse in the desired location and click
To customize the size of the stamp, click and drag your mouse until the stamp reaches your desired size.
Click and drag the stamp to the desired location
Click and drag the corner handles to the desired size
From the Basic toolbar, click HAND TOOL![]()
Double click the stamp
The Stamp Pop-up Note appears.
NOTE: The name of the Pop-up Note will vary depending on the type of stamp.
In the Pop-up Note, type the comment
Close the Pop-up Note
To view comments, click the stamp
You can attach document files or sound files to PDF documents.
On the Commenting toolbar, click ATTACH FILE![]()
The cursor becomes a thumbtack.
Click anywhere on the PDF file that you would like to attach a file
The Add Attachment dialog box appears.
Using the Look in pull-down list, locate and select the file you would like to attach
Click SELECT
The File Attachment Properties dialog box appears.
From the Appearance tab, from the Icon list, select the type of icon you would like your attachment to appear as
From the Color palette, select a color
Click CLOSE
NOTE: In order to record you must have a microphone.
On the Commenting toolbar, click the arrow
next to ATTACH FILE
A drop down menu appears.
Select Record Audio Comment![]()
Click anywhere on the PDF file you would like to attach a sound file to
The Sound Recorder dialog box appears.
To record your own sound, click RECORD![]()
OR
To find a sound file that is already saved, click BROWSE...
Once you are satisfied with the sound file, click OK
The Sound Attachment Properties dialog box appears.
From the Appearance tab, in the Icon list, select the type of icon you would like your sound attachment to appear as
From the Color palette, select a color
Click CLOSE
