In June 2009 the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation anticipates awarding 30 Graduate Scholarships of up to $50,000 a year to outstanding students beginning their first graduate or professional degree program in fall 2009. Recipients of a Cooke Graduate Scholarship may continue the scholarship for up to five additional years. The Cooke Graduate Scholarship is one of the most desirable awards in the nation.
UW-Eau Claire is permitted to nominate two candidates each year for the Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship. If you are a UW-Eau Claire undergraduate in your final year or a recent alumnus or alumna who has not already initiated a graduate degree program you may want to seek additional information about this opportunity. A completed application includes several pieces--some completed by the student, some completed by the student’s parents, some obtained from university offices, and some from faculty members. The wise applicant starts this multiple-step process first thing in January.
Applicants must submit to the Dean of Graduate Studies the following materials by Noon on March 10, 2009 in order to be considered for a nomination. The completed application, recommendations, and the applicant’s financial information need to be submitted online. However, the parent’s financial information, transcripts, copies of the student’s tax forms, and other supporting documents are submitted as hard copies to Dr. Andrew Phillips, Dean of Graduate Studies, 212 Schofield Hall.

Students selected for nomination will then be notified by the Dean of Graduate Studies, and asked to supply the following additional nomination information as they become available, but by May 5, 2009 at the latest.
In June 2009 the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation anticipates awarding 5 to 10 Awards for Graduate Studies in the Arts. This is the largest private award for emerging artists to pursue graduate studies and the Foundation gives up to $50,000 per year for up to six years to each recipient. Students pursuing graduate studies in the visual and performing arts may use the award at any accredited institution worldwide. Each award varies in amount and duration based on the cost of the graduate program and the amount of grants, scholarships, or university funding that the Scholar receives.
