Get to know the board:
Emily K.: Emily is a senior vocal performance major from Baraboo, WI. She joined gospel choir as a freshman and became the director her junior year. She loves gospel choir because of the opportunity to praise God through such joyful and fun music and the family that we become.
Scott: Scott is a Music Education major at UW-Eau Claire. He's studying saxophone and has been playing bass guitar with the Gospel Choir since the spring of 2010.
Joe: Joe is a fifth-year student at UW-Eau Claire. Having completed a degree in Public History in May 2011, he is now working toward a second degree in Music. He is heavily involved in the UWEC Jazz Program, currently as a member of the nationally-acclaimed Jazz Ensemble I. As part of this ensemble, Joe has had the opportunity to perform with several internationally acclaimed artists, most notably: Eric Marienthal, Geoff Keezer, Wycliffe Gordon, Bobby Sanabria, Nicholas Peyton, Five By Design, Kenni Holmen, and others. In addition to his musical activities within the University, he is very active in the local and Twin Cities music scenes. Locally, he is a member of the groups Beacon James and Duncan Ninja and has also performed with popular local artists such as The Jim Pullman Band, Meridene, Fifth Element, and the Robert Baca Jazz Orchestra. Outside of Eau Claire, Joe gigs frequently with two Minneapolis-based groups, PB & the Jam and The David Yellen Band and has spent the last three summers performing in a music review show at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee, MN.
Darian: Darian has not sent Rachel his bio, and therefore does not get one. Instead he gets Rachel's comments about how he is silly and never remembers to turn off his phone alarm before he comes to meetings. Also, he is a space alien working as a librarian. Yep. Darian the librarian.
Rachel: 'Sup guys? I am a senior majoring in English with an emphasis in creative writing, minoring in Japanese. I like to read, write, drink tea, and watch movies. I hate wearing socks. I sing when I drive. I love to travel. I've been in gospel choir since fall 2008 excepting the semester I studied abroad at Kansai Gaidai, Japan, and it's pretty much my favorite thing ever, and my home away from home. Also, I am a ninja.
Emily S.: Hi! I am a senior English Literature major with a Global Studies minor. I like reading, camping, knitting, traveling, movies, and good conversations. I also like music, and I love Gospel Choir because music and God have always gone together for me. I joined Gospel Choir spring semester of my freshman year, and have been in it ever since, except for the semester I studied abroad in Glasglow, Scotland (which was awesome).
Kate: Kate has not sent Rachel her bio either, and therefore does not get one. Instead she gets Rachel's comments about how she is silly and has a habit of stopping in the middle of her sentences and refusing to finish. Also, she is a happy dancing elf. Pow.
Yharnet: Hey! I'm Yharnet Browne. I am a fifth year senior with a French major and Art History minor. I recently came back from studying abroad in Pau, France last Spring. From last fall, I am back with a vengence as this year's treasurer!
Dr. Taylor: Dr. Taylor founded the UW-Eau Claire Gospel Choir in 1988 and he continues to perform in and serve as its advisor. He is the founder of the UWEC Music Therapy program, creator of the Biomedical Theory of Music Therapy, author and publisher of Biomedical Foundations of Music as Therapy, Chair of the Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care, member of the International Relations Committee of the American Music Therapy Association, past Commodore of the Lake Wissota Yacht Club, former Editor of the International Journal of Arts Medicine, and composer/performer of a music cd entitled Whispers of Life. He has performed with the Wisconsin Opera Company, the Madison Theatre Guild, the UW-Madison Dance Theatre, the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild, and the University of Kansas Opera Workshop and Dance Theatre while earning his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. He and his wife Jennifer enjoy skiing, sailboat racing, and teaching swing and ballroom dancing.
