6:00pm

  1. Overview of Conference in L.A.
    • Education is G.K. main theme; we need to focus on making our chapter more education-based
    • We should involve alumni/honorary members to help with networking
    • Stress the benefits of G.K to new members
  2. Chapter Standards
    • Paula has already completed student invites
    • Exec. Board has updated leader info
    • We will hold elections in spring but will elect co-chairs sooner for those graduating in December or studying abroad
    • Activity reports need to be done by those in charge of the activity (& historian)
    • Chapter Performance Evaluation: get feedback from members via e-mail in the spring
  3. Initiation ceremony will be on November 20 th
    • Following ceremony there will be a brunch in conjunction with the SOPHS and we will invite honorary members as well (also invite honorary members to service activities and meetings)
    • End of Oct. we will have an info meeting for any questions that new inductees may have
  4. Education-focused service activities ideas
    • Make a difference day-Tidy up the Town on October 29 th (with educational component)
    • In conjunction with Mortar Board, we bought back packs for a school supplies drive
    • Adopt a teacher: have students write essays to nominate their teacher and say why they need the money
    • Grad school expo: Tracy will contact Career Services to co-sponsor; possibly hold during Honors Week during Student Research Day on Tuesday, April 25 th
    • Book Ends Program: buy books for hospital to send home with newborns (Lori contacting hospitals); or could buy books and donate to library for book-drive; Jane looking into reading programs to pair up with elderly and read or play games
    • Elementary Enrichment Programs: provide after school enrichment once a week between 3-4 pm for 4-6 wks; could use as service-learning as well
  5. Other mission-related activities
    • Friday, December 9 th Community Table: buy and serve meal; girl scout troop will help by bringing and distributing milk
    • Once Blue hurricane Katrina bracelets come in we will help sell them with proceeds going to the Red Cross
  6. Meetings
    • 1 General Meeting and 1 Exec. Meeting per month
    • Meetings will be held on Mondays at 6pm
    • We will pair each meeting with a social or service event to improve turn out
    • Next Exec. Meeting will be Monday, September 19 th in Davies
    • Next General Meeting will be Monday, September 26 th w/free pizza (location unknown, possible Hibbard Penthouse)
  7. BOB is September 14 th and we will hand out FAQ sheets, brochures, and information on why people should join GK
  8. Have Angela invite TV stations to any events that are visual to raise public awareness
  9. Have GK table at Alumni Bash on October 15 th (Homecoming) with a newsletter (done by Angela) and a laptop showing our updated website
  10. Look at website to see if we could have an international sister chapter to communicate with; also look into local chapter networking (i.e. Trick or Eat statewide)
