Golden Key Executive Board Meeting Minutes

Next General Meeting will be held Nov. 15th in the Alumni Room at 7pm.

Join Golden Key for a FREE movie at the Budget Cinema Tuesday, Nov. 8th.

  • 8:15 meet at the Acoustic Cafe for dinner, coffee, or desert
  • 9:10 walk to the theater and watch one of two feature films (movies showing next week will be announced on Monday, Nov. 7th.)

Come to a Thanksgiving Feast and share the holiday spirit with Mortar Board and ODK. All three Honor Societies are joining together Thursday, Nov. 18th to celebrate.

  • Dinner starts at 5:30 and will be held in the Oxbow Villas on the 10th block of water street.
  • Bring a thanksgiving dish to pass
  • E-mail Michelle Picket at picketml by Nov. 9th. Tell her the number of people you are bringing and the dish that you would like to share.

Volunteer
UWEC Golden Key has been working hard to provide members with numerous volunteer activities. We still need more volunteers for each of the following events and programs:

  1. Big Brothers Big Sisters - For more information you can call 835-0161 or e-mail info@bbbsnw.org or you can visit the website at www.bbbsnw.org. Please sign yourself up by contacting our Activities Coordinator Sarah Lackore at Lackorsm.
    • Community Based Mentoring- This is the traditional Big and Little Relationship that lasts for at least a year, meeting for several hours, two to four times a month. Activities include taking a walk, playing games, running errands, etc...
    • Big Brothers Big Sisters in Schools- This involves spending one hour will a student once a week either at his/her school or at another site such as the YMCA. You can meet the child before or after school or during lunch.
    • Safe and Sound- This is a free program for middle school youth to hang out at the Middle School Club House. Volunteers are always needed to play with the kids. Times when Safe and Sound is open: 3-6 pm, Mon-Thursday and 6-10 pm, Friday Nights.
  2. Golden Key has eight members participating is the EC Reading Partner Program which matches an ESL elementary student with volunteers who read to them for an hour a week. Contact Sarah lackorsm if you want to get involved. Participants get 3 Golden Key points for taking part in this program!
  3. Golden Key is organizing games and activities to play with children at Safe and Sound from 5:30-10:30 on Friday, Dec. 3rd. Please sign up to help out. Contact Rachel Anderson at andersre.
  4. The EC school district still needs more elementary school tutors to start ASAP. Volunteers are needed for two 1hr slots a week. Sign up with Sarah Lackore at lackorsm

Reminder: You must receive 10 participation points throughout the academic year to be considered an active Golden Key member, so please sign up for events and activities.

System of awards and points

  • 10 points a year are needed to be considered an active member, thus making a member eligible for scholarships
  • after a person has achieved 10 pts. there will be prizes for certain levels of participation. These rewards include movie tickets, dinner gift certificates, and free graduation cords.
  • attending a meeting = 1 pt
  • joining a committee = 1pt
  • being an officer = 2pts
  • participating in a service or social activity = 2pts
  • going to a conference = 4pts
