Golden Key General Meeting Minutes

UWEC Golden Key has been working hard to provide members with numerous volunteer activities. We still need more volunteers for each of the following events and programs, so please sign yourself up by contacting our Activities Coordinator Sarah Lackore at lackorsm.

  1. Craig Munson from Big Brothers Big Sisters came in to talk to us last night about three Eau Claire activities that need volunteers. For more information you can call 835-0161 or e-mail info@bbbsnw.org or you can visit the website at www.bbbsnw.org. Remember to sign up with Sarah though.
    • Community Based Mentoring- This is the traditional Big and Little Relationship that lasts for at least a year, meeting for several hours, two to four times a month. Activities include taking a walk, playing games, running errands, etc...
    • Big Brothers Big Sisters in Schools- This involves spending one hour will a student once a week either at his/her school or at another site such as the YMCA. You can meet the child before or after school or during lunch.
    • Safe and Sound- This is a free program for middle school youth to hang out at the Middle School Club House. Volunteers are always needed to play with the kids. Times when Safe and Sound is open: 3-6 pm, Mon-Thursday and 6-10 pm, Friday Nights.
  2. Golden Key has eight members participating is the EC Reading Partner Program which matches an ESL elementary student with volunteers who read to them for an hour a week. Contact Sarah if you want to get involved.
  3. Golden Key is serving food to the underprivileged this Sunday, October 24th from 1-4:30 and the Community Table. This is an awesome experience, and we only need five more volunteers, so sign up soon!
  4. Golden Key is also chaperoning for the Eau Claire Children's Theater fundraiser, the Big Band Monster Bash on Oct. 29th. This is taking place at the Ramada downtown, and students are needed to help out from 6-10:30.
  5. Golden Key is participating in "Tidy up the Town" on Oct. 30th. All campus organizations are coming together to help rack leaves and provide fall clean-up for EC citizens. The event is being held from 1-4:30 and refreshments will be provided. E-mail Ryan Prechel
  6. Golden Key if organizing games and activities to play with children at Safe and Sound from 5:30-10:30 on Friday, Dec. 3rd. Sing up now with Sarah Lackore!

UWEC Golden Key is applying for a chapter grant to receive money to donate to a program a UWEC Golden Key Alum is working on is South Africa. Her program is working to educate South African children about their regional geography and environment.

Social Activity: Golden Key is going to the Budget movies and possibly the Acoustic Cafe on Tuesday Nov. 9th. We are also looking into having a progressive dinner sometime in December.
