Press Release:

UW-EAU CLAIRE GOLDEN KEY HONOR SOCIETY ONE OF TEN TO WIN NATIONAL AWARD

ATLANTA, February 18, 2009 –

Golden Key International Honour society recently awarded a Chapter Service Award to the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.  The annual Chapter Service Award is one of many ways that Golden Key helps student members realize their potential.  The Chapter Service Awards subsidize a chapter’s ability to offer outstanding service to the community.  Chapter president, Julie Germain (New Richmond) noted that “UW-Eau Claire’s Golden Key will use the award to increase prize money to Eau Claire fourth grade classrooms that participate in the fifth annual Golden Key essay contest.”
All Golden Key chapters may apply for the Chapter Service Award, but only ten outstanding chapters are selected to receive this honor.  The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire was selected from a pool of eligible chapters to receive a $1,000 USD award, sponsored by Better World Books, for their elementary school essay contest .
Golden Key International Honour Society, established in 1977, is the world’s premier collegiate honor society, with over 1.8 million student and alumni members.  The Society has more than 365 campus-based chapters worldwide, including 281 in the United States, 17 in Canada and 62 others in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

Golden Key provides academic recognition to top performing undergraduate and graduate students.  Members participate in leadership development opportunities, community service and career networking, and are eligible for member exclusive scholarships.  Faculty advisors and student leadership are volunteers who work hard to support Golden Key’s mission. UW-Eau Claire faculty advisors are Paula Stuettgen, University Centers, and Earl Shoemaker, Academic Advising.

“It is only fitting that the chapter at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire is recognized by Golden Key,” commented john W. Mitchell, Golden Key’s Chief Executive Officer.  “Our members are inspired and motivated not only to achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, but also to make a positive impact on out world through the Society’s commitment to service.”
