Do you think brick was a popular building material in Eau Claire?
In
which
areas of the city do you suppose brick was most heavily used?
Why
do
you think a city like Chicago consists of predominately brick houses?
Very few houses are built out of brick in Eau Claire. In
contrast, brick houses are a common sight in Mississippi River towns because
bricks were easily and therefore cheaply moved up and down the river. But
inland, brick was an expensive building material. This is still relatively
true today because the material and masons are more expensive than wood and
carpenters.
