The use of wooden shingles on the walls of houses is most unusual
-- only 3% of Eau Claire's houses are so covered. Yet this material
is associated with several architectural styles: Shingle, Arts and Crafts,
and Colonial Revival.
| From the 1910s wooden shingles were replaced by large sized asbestos shingles. Asbestos is a hazardous carcinogen material, that is very costly to eliminated safely. |
