Eau Claire: Wide Clapboard Houses

Wide wooden clapboard is about 8 inches in width and became popular in the 1940s-1960s. By the 1970s the wide clapboard look of typical suburban  houses was replaced with narrower, and often textured, steel and aluminum siding.

A map of Eau Claire would show a high concentration of wide clapboard
in the suburban areas  such as Putnam Heights that grew up in the 1950s-1970s.
